Environment
The collard lizard needs hot temperatures in the day the temperature should range
from 75-90 degrees the basking light should be 95-105 degrees and the night time
temperature should be 70-80 degrees.  They should have hotter and cooler areas of
the cage like all reptiles.  They need hiding places.  Branches should be included
since they like to hop around.  Collared lizards live in dry climates.  A dessert theme is
most necessary for collared lizards.  UV lights and florescent lights used for heat
sources.  They need to make some of their own calcium and they need a source of
heat to keep them warm.  You should have a 25-40 gallon enclosure.   Make sure the
tank has a lid because they can jump and run very fast.  Humidity should stay around
20% since they live in a dry environment.

Food
Collared lizards are mainly carnivores but some collared lizards will take vegetables.
When they are young they like to feed on crickets and other bugs.  Make sure the
bugs are dusted with calcium for proper nutrition.  Feed them minerals/vitamins once
to twice a week.  The calcium and mineral/vitamin rules apply to adults too.  Feed
them every day when they are young.  When they get older they can eat small
rodents.  Make sure the rodents are already killed and defrosted.  Feed adult collared
lizards every other day.  I personally disagree with letting collared lizards eat other
lizards.  I find this inhumane.  A lot of collard lizards will eat veggies and fruit such as
collared greens, papayas, raspberries figs and more.  Place water in a small shallow
dish.  Change water once a week because they don’t drink from it very much.  You
need to mist the cage once a week.

Substrate
The collared lizard’s substrate can be sand, rocks, or even mulch.  The substrates
listed can only be used if you make sure your collared lizard won’t eat the substrate by
accident when he hunts.  This may lead to sickness because it will damage their
stomach lining and intestines.  It is probably best to feed them in a separate enclosure
so you can make sure your collared lizard doesn't accidentally eat any substrate.

Behavior
Collared lizards are very jumpy and aren't the best reptile to hold.  They can usually
be housed together as long as you make sure the collared lizards are around the
same size.  The other lizard could get in a fight with each other.  Females are usually
a brown color and males tend to be bright with a lot of different patterns all over their
body.  Collared lizards use these bright colors to attract the female.

Fun Facts
The collared lizard is about 20-30 cm big.  Collared lizard males are filled with patterns
