Environment
Doves need plenty of room to fly around in. Make sure that when you purchase your
cage it is a large cage this will provide your dove with plenty of room to fly around in.
Put perches in your cage for your dove to have places to rest. Add a nesting place for
your Dove if your dove is either pregnant or if your dove needs a place to sleep in.
Make sure that your dove is not in direct sunlight because this can cause your bird to
overheat. Also if you live in a cold region do not open windows because the coldness
can cause your bird to get sick. At night it is best t put a cover on your birds cage
because this will make your pet dove feel safe and secure. Also with my own
experience make sure that you keep your cage closed because if you accidentally let
the cage open its extremely difficult to catch your dove and get it back in the cage.
Food
Doves love seeds this should be your doves primary source of food. When you go to
your local pet store make sure that you get a dove mixture of food. Make sure that
you feed your bird every day and make sure you do not give too much or too little food
for your dove. It is important that when you put water in your dove cage that your
dove does not drown. Do not use a bowl of water that doves can get trapped in and
drown. Doves love to bath so it is important that you change the water every day
otherwise the water will get infected with harmful bacteria that can kill your bird. Also
when handling your bird always make sure you wash your hands or you can get sick
from harmful bacteria.
Behavior
Doves like all other animals have many different moods. Your Dove may not get along
with other birds in the same cage. This is completely normal. Usually you should
switch cages with the Doves but sometimes your pet may overcome its rivalry with the
other birds. If you so not want your Dove to develop baby Doves make sure that you
keep your Dove males and females separate from each other. If you want to breed
your Doves make sure that you do not let the other Doves interbreed this happens a
lot if you put males and females of the same parent together. When you buy your
Dove it is best to get two female pets instead of two males. Males will often fight with
each other as females do not.
