Substrate
Bark or moss can be used as substrate.  Peat moss works well for a substrate since it
holds in humidity well.  House geckos can be kept on bark chips as long as they aren't
kept on aspen or pine because these are poisonous to most animals.  Make sure that
when you feed your House Gecko make sure that he does not accidentally swallow
any substrate.  This can hurt their stomached lining and injure your House Gecko.

Environment
House geckos can have a humidity level of 60 percent.  The more plants you have the
easier it will be to keep the humidity up.  House geckos can be kept in a minimum of 18
by 18 by 18 in.  Make sure that two male house geckos aren't together since they will
fight even if there is not a female around the cage.  Female House Geckos can be
kept together with one male per group.  You should only add a male to your group of
females if you are looking to breed them.  House geckos are nocturnal but still need a
light turned on to keep them warm during the day.  House geckos don’t need UV lights
but they do need some type of light source.  You should keep their light on for around
12 hours of the day like most reptiles.  Make sure the temperature is from 76-86
degrees.  Night time temperatures should be from 75-65 degrees.  Heating pads can
be used to keep it warm at night.  Make sure your house gecko’s heat pad does not
get too hot because this can be a fire hazard and can also burn your house gecko.
Make sure there is hot and cold places in the tank.  This gives your house gecko the
option of basking itself or to cool down.  There should also be hiding places on the hot
and cold spots of the tank to provide your house gecko with an option of hiding in cool
or hot areas of the tank.  There should be a lot of hiding places in the tank.  There
should also be a lot of climbing areas since house geckos like to climb all over the
place.

Food
The house gecko eats cricket’s silk worm’s meal worms and other insects.  Adults can
be fed every other day and juveniles can be fed every day.  The house gecko’s food
should be dusted every day and fed multivitamins every week.  The house gecko
should have water provided in the tanks at all times.    Make sure you change their
water every day to stop parasites and bacteria from growing in the water.   Make sure
their water bowl is shallow so they can easily get in and out of it.  House geckos don’t
always drink from their water bowl so it is very necessary to mist the cage to provide
them with a better water source if they don’t drink from their water bowl.

Fun Facts
House geckos can be handled but are very fast moving creatures and a long fall could
hurt them.  Make sure you never grab them by their tail since their tail is liable to break
off easily if you hold them harshly.  House Geckos can get up to 6in long and are very
common in Florida.  People often find them in their homes wandering around on their
walls throughout the house running around.
