Environment

Lorikeets are very pretty birds.  They come in almost every rainbow color.  Lorikeets
are multicolored and they will come in many different color combinations.  They are
very noisy so you need to make sure that you are willing to keep a social bird.  They
are very skilled when it comes to acrobats.  They will do different stunts and fly all
around their environment.  Lorikeets are often the same birds you will come across at
the zoo.  They are very lively birds and are extremely good for children.  Make sure
that you have a very large space for your lorikeet.  For every bird you add the
enclosure should be a lot bigger.  Make sure that the cage gives the bird enough room
to fly around in it and freely open its wings.  Always keep the bird away from a cat or
dog.  Sometimes cats or dogs will get a hold of your lorikeet and kill them.  Put them
high up or in a room that your dog or cat can not get to your lorikeet.  Make sure that
the bar is less than half an inch small otherwise they can surprisingly slip through the
bar.  Add perches so your bird can fly around to different spots in the enclosure.  You
can add toys and other accessories for you bird but make sure that they are not too
small or your lorikeet can choke on the object.  Lorikeets can live at room temperature
but make sure that it does not get too much colder.  Put a blanket over the cage at
night so your lorikeet does not get distracted during the night.  Lorikeets will usually
live fifteen years if you take proper care of them.

Food

Lorikeets usually will eat nectar or some type of pelleted diet but it is easier to keep
them on a seeded diet.  Feed them fruits and vegetables at least twice a week.  They
should get vegetable baby food at least three times a week.  Feed them pelleted diets
almost every day of the week.  Make sure that you feed them pelleted diets that have
high nutrition so your lorikeet will maintain a healthy life.  Feed your lorikeet nectar at
least twice a week so they get a variety of foods in their diet.  Again make sure that the
nectar has good nutrition.

Behavior

Lorikeets will get along with other birds.  Make sure that you do not mix bird species
because this can lead to serious problems with food and behavior.  Males and males
will only occasionally fight but they should get along.  Remember never mix male and
female unless you are willing to have babies.  You should be well knowledgeable if you
decide you want to raise baby lorikeets.
